Finally, today, i managed to have a printing day ! It seems like an age since I've managed to cut a new plate and print it, always something getting in the way, so it a was great to be able to experiment with this new print. More tweeking needed to get it just right, but had fun getting my hands dirty again!
These are gorgeous Amanada - very well cut lino block. How do you manage to get all your curves so smooth?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jaqui- For the main part of the print, i used the softer grey lino, which cuts beautifully when slightly warm, so it's quite easy to get a fluid line. I quite like having the uneven lines in the print though, as it has a feeling of being hand carved rather than a computer generated design- so i have a rough guide line, then let the carving do it's job. Think i'll reprint these again though on some smoother paper to get a better result. I've got some lovely velvet somerset that will ideal :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh, looks like you had lots of fun :) Love your new design.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely design Amanda. I love the all-blue version. I also like your system for printing the birds/centre of tree - not two large blocks, as I've seen done normally, but some little ones that line up with the main block - very clever.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you buy the soft grey lino, please? I have some of the white synthetic stuff, but it's very soft and squashy. I also have the hard grey stuff... bleah... I'd love to get hold of some "in-between" / proper soft lino but haven't found anywhere to buy it.
Hi Lizzie, thank you : )
ReplyDeleteI don't know if the grey lino i use is softer than the usual grey hard lino you use? it is just softer for me as i usually use a very hard brown lino. Also by warming the lino slightly, it makes it easier to cut.
Here's a link to Lawrence art supplies, who supply lots of great printing equipment, including the grey lino i used here:

Ah thanks, I use Lawrence for some bookbinding supplies. I'll look at their lino stuff now too.

ReplyDeletejust so lovley...and some minutes ago i ordered your wonderful red garland...how i promised last year...times flow...so i´m looking forward to your wonderful work...all the best...take care and thanks for the link on your site...;)...cheers and hugs...i...
ReplyDeleteThese look great to me- what tweeks are you planning?? Is it playing with different colours?
ReplyDeleteHi Mel, it was just the paper i was using. I've now print the red on a Somerset paper, which has produced a much clearer, smoother print. It's amazing what difference paper makes. : )
