Winter Bird Prints

With thoughts turning just a little to winter and the dreaded "C" word (Christmas!), my inspiration turns to Nordic patterns and colour combinations. These prints are packed with pattern and colours that hint at the up and coming winter. I took inspiration from a Holy plant growing at the school, heaving with beautiful flower heads, and of course returning to my favourite colours of rich reds and blues. I'm thinking of using some of these designs for greeting cards, maybe not seasonal enough for Christmas, but i still think they would look quite effective all the same.

Prints now available on Folksy

I think they'd be great as christmas cards, especially for everyone who doesn't go for over the top fat, glittery penguins etc!

I think they would be wonderful for Christmas cards too, they evoke the spirit of winter time. Gorgeous.

...Can't believe I typed the C word already ;)

Lovely as alsways!!!
I finally managed to try lino print making myself-at Bowes Museum. Great fun and way out of my detailed fine line drawing technique comfort zone!!! I love your designs but see how they have to be more stylised/simplified forms of the original object. I admire your work even more now!! I told the french artist Pascale Hemery, who produces industrial scenes from lino prints, as well as the Bowes tutor about your blog.....

I wonder of you have ever worked on the theme of twelve days of Christmas?

Your birds are festive and folky and very lovely.

Hehe : )Julie, it creeps closer and closer every year doesn't it? Very difficult to think about it when the glorious September sun is shinning through the window too :D

@a.c- thank you so much for your kind comments- how wonderful to have been able to work with Pascale! I hope you keep going with the printing, it takes some time getting used to the medium, but it's great fun experimenting too.

It was great fun but will have to try and change my mind set when I try out some of my designs, in order to simplify the form.....
Lovely to have a fellow Morris/Pre- Raphaelite lover as one of my 'followers'-welcome onboard.
I am trying something else way out of my comfort zone at the moment-an OU 20th century art module. Quite a learning curve, but once on top of things must get back to the practical side of things again.....

i appologize for not having visited in a while.
i have to say, i love the freshness of your new pieces.
as well, from an earlier post of yours, i'm sorry to hear of the difficulty with regard to "Mangle Prints" name having been swept from under your feet. that's rough.
it's easy for me to say, pay it no mind, but I do understand how that can get under your skin.
your work is great: keep doing it!
